This camera does indeed take magnificent pictures if you are outdoors or somewhere very brightly lit. Magnificent! But indoors or someplace with medium light, not even low light, MEDIUM LIGHT, it does a general focus rather than picking an object or face and focusing on that. It's weird to explain, but rather than a small green box indicating where the camera is focusing, one big box appears and takes up most of the screen, and there is no way to change it. The general focus means that it doesn't actually focus on anything so nothing looks sharp. At all your family gatherings such as birthdays and holidays, the pictures will be disappointing, even mid-day with all the shades open, the pictures are severely lacking. The zoom was a nice bonus but not needed so I swapped it for Canon SD 940 IS and couldn't be happier.
